Discover the Photo Ark project through the lens of Joel Sartore
National Geographic: Animals of Earth
The Project
As part of the new National Geographic Museum of Exploration in Washington, we were tasked with creating a multimedia experience detailing the life of Joel Sartore, photographer for National Geographic. Joel's inspiring Photo Ark project - to document the entirety of Earth's species through photography and video - is rendered in large-scale projection for visitors to discover.
Contribution
I was a Unity developer for "Reasons to Care", the final zone (room) of the exhibit. It serves as the climax of the experience in the form of an interactive floor/wall playground, which progress into a 4-part narrative structure in which the viewers leave inspired to act to protect biodiversity. I was a key player in the developement of the whole project, from early prototypes to integration of the final experience on site. Notably, designing a system for the runtime handling of thousands of photos and videos was one of the core responsabilities of the project that I took on.
